Hyperion

Hyperion is an irregularly shaped moon of Saturn.[1] Its irregular rotation leaves Hyperion spinning unpredictably along its path around Saturn.[1]

History

In 1848, separate discovery reports came from William Lassell and from William and George Bond.[1]

Findings

Its three measured axes are approximately 410, 260, and 220 kilometres.[1] Its low density may be explained by ice with substantial empty space within it.[1] Its surface has extensive cratering.[1] JPL lists Hyperion's mean radius as 135 kilometres.[2] ESA lists Hyperion's orbital period as 21.28 Earth days.[3]
